As the name suggests, this silk is a traditional textile of the famous city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The silk used in the production of these sarees is finest and pure quality silk. The most spectacular characteristics of Banarasi silk sarees are their mughal inspired intricate designs like floral and foliate motifs and jhallar borders. A bride’s trousseau is said to be incomplete without a Banarasi silk saree. The sarees are known for their gold and silver brocade & gold zari and opulent embroidery. The main varieties of Banarasi saree, which includes Pure silk Katan, Organza (Kora) with zari & silk, Georgette and Shattir and according to design process, they are divided into categories like, Jangla, Tanchoi, Vaskat, Cutwork, Tissue and Butidar. It takes about 15 days to 6 months to complete the weaving of a single Banarasi silk saree depending upon the details of designs.
